A Ferrari Day dedicated to ART

On June 4, 2024, we warmly invited our customers to another exclusive day event at the Liebieghaus in Frankfurt. Together, we experienced a day filled with fascinating insights and unforgettable moments as we immersed ourselves in the world of the Medusa Reconstruction.

Our guests were given a unique opportunity to watch Dr. Koch-Brinkmann, an archaeologist, work live on the color reconstruction of a Medusa head based on ancient models.

Recently, scientists at the Liebieghaus had the chance to examine the well-preserved coloration of a Greek, late-classical burial chamber in Naples, the “Ipogeo dei Cristallini.” On the central wall of one of the tomb's chambers, there was a depiction of a three-dimensional Medusa head— a Gorgoneion, surrounded by a painted aegis, the breastplate of Athena. Through various scientific investigations, the color traces of the Gorgoneion were carefully determined. Using this data, a color reconstruction of the Medusa head was created over the following months in a specially set-up workshop. Only original ancient pigments were used for the reconstruction. The workshop was complemented by additional objects from the museum’s collection that vividly illustrated the story of Athena and Medusa.
